Movie review: Side Effects

Side Effects, the new Steven Soderberg film, is kind of a twisted thriller involving the death of a man--and a woman who may have been suffering from the side effects of antidepressants. Rooney Mara is amazing as Emily, a young wife who seems to be overwhelmed by depression until she starts taking a revolutionary new drug. Jude Law plays the psychiatrist who soon finds his own life spinning out of control. Vinessa Shaw was good as his very frustrated wife. The one who I felt was a little too over the top was Catherine Zeta-Jones (of whom I am normally a big fan), playing Emily's former psychiatrist. If you're in the mood for a solid thriller, there are plenty of good surprises and lots of suspense in Side Effects.
