Bad Blood by Dana Stabenow

Bad Blood is the latest in the "Kate Shugak"/Alaska series by Dana Stabenow. There are two small towns on opposite sides of a river. One town is flourishing while the other is barely hanging on. The people in one town hate the people in the other and vice versa. A teenage boy from the poor town is found dead, probably murdered. Soon another body is found in a crawlspace, and it's also probably murder. Kate and cop boyfriend Jim Chopin are trying to get to the bottom of the two deaths, but the citizens of both towns are stonewalling them. And then there's a Romeo & Juliet type love story thrown in for good measure. I like this series a lot. Kate is an appealing heroine--independent and feisty. Alaska is an interesting setting. And the stories are good. If you're new to the series, start at the beginning with Restless in the Grave.
