The Racer by Clive Cussler

The Racer is one of the latest installments (I think a new just came out) in the "Isaac Bell" series. This is an interesting premise. Isaac Bell works for a large private investigation firm in the early 1900s. He's engaged to a woman named Marion, who's in the fledgling movie business. And his adventures take him all over the country. In this book, Isaac and his team are hired to protect a woman named Josephine who is taking part in a contest to fly from the east coast to the west coast. Her much older (also rich and very violent) husband is trying to kill her during the race because he thinks she cheated on him with her airplane mechanic. While there is a little too much technical talk about the different kinds of airplanes for me, it's an interesting story and a fascinating glimpse at a different time.
