Home of the Braised by Julie Hyzy

Home of the Braised is another entertaining romp with White House chef and amateur crime solver Ollie Paras. In the last book I read in this series, Ollie and her Secret Service friend Gav had noticed a spark between them but hadn't decided on whether it was a good idea to pursue a relationship. At the beginning of this one, they were talking about a wedding--which is when I realized I had missed a book (Fonduing Fathers, which I will have to find at the local library).

Anyway, Ollie and Gav are going to meet with Gav's friend Evan, a former secret service agent now minister. When they get there, however, Evan and several other men are dead and two gas-masked men grab Ollie and Gav and spirit them away from the scene. That's only the beginning of Ollie's problems. She also trying to oversee a last-minute (and somewhat controversial) state dinner and deal with the disruptive presence in her kitchen of diva chef Virgil, who really wants Ollie's job. After much ado, and a lot of scrumptious-sounding food, it all works out in the end. A perfect diversion on yet another subzero day in this never-ending winter.
