Letters from Skye by Jessica Brockmole

Sometimes, one event comes along that totally changes the trajectory of your life. That's what happened when American college student David Graham receives a book of poetry by a young poet on the Isle of Skye named Elspeth Dunn. He is so moved by the poetry that he writes her a fan letter. And so begins a years-long correspondence between the two that evolves into more.

The story starts in the years before World War I and carries through to World War II, when Elspeth's daughter accidentally discovers the cache of letters during a bombing raid. That leads her to take a whole new look at the mother she thought she knew.

The book is comprised solely of letters between David and Elspeth (or "Sue" as he calls her) and letters between Elspeth's daughter Margaret and her friend Paul. So it moves along quickly. A charming story.
