Movie Review: Chef

As I was leaving the movie theater, the guy in back of me said to his girlfriend, "My stomach is growling." That's how good the food in the movie Chef looks. And there is lots of mouthwatering food.
Jon Favreau stars as California chef Carl Caspar, whose culinary creativity is being stifled by the restaurant owner, played by Dustin Hoffman. When the owner insists that Carl stick to the tried-and-true (aka boring) regular menu the night an influential food critic comes to the restaurant, Carl's cooking gets a negative review that goes viral. His blowup also goes viral and he ends up looking for work. His ex-wife (played by Sofia Vergara--and these two are so amicably divorced that you wonder why they got divorced in the first place) thinks he should 1)spend more time with their adorable son and 2)open a food truck so he can cook whatever he wants. The food fest/travelogue that follows is entertaining--and the soundtrack is great.

Groundbreaking cinema? No. But it is a charming story and the food looks fabulous.
