One Plus One by JoJo Moyes

I discovered British writer JoJo Moyes a while back and am certainly glad I did.
Me Before You is one of my favorite reads of the last year. And One Plus One just joined that list.

One Plus One features lovable single mom Jess, who's raising not only her own math-whiz daughter, Tanzie,
but her almost ex-husband's teenage son, Nicky--with no help, literal or financial, from said almost
ex-husband. And yet, no matter how hard things get, Jess remains an optimist because of her kids--for whom she would do anything to make sure things turn out well. That leads to a single lapse in judgment (for the sake of her daughter) involving a successful businessman named Ed, whose summer house she cleans.

Ed is having troubles of his own, due to a single lapse in judgement involving a romantic entanglement gone wrong. One day he comes across Jess and her family pulled over by the police along the side of the road.
He stops to help and soon finds himself, Jess, Tanzie, Nicky and the family's gigantic dog, Norman,
all crammed into his car and heading for Scotland, where Tanzie is supposed to participate in a math Olympiad in hopes of winning enough prize money to go to an expensive private school where her math genius can be nurtured.

After a rocky start to the journey, loner Ed soon finds himself enjoying being part of this unconventional family group. But his lapse in judgment and Jess's threaten to destroy everyone's happy ending.

I loved these characters so much I didn't want this book to end.
