A wedding in Provence by Ellen Sussman

I was kind of disappointed in A Wedding in Provence. I picked it up hoping it would be a light romance in a beautiful setting (it's been a long week at work). But there was a lot of dysfunction in the featured family.

Olivia and Brody (she divorced, he widowed) are set to marry at the French country inn of Olivia's best friend Emily and her husband Sebastien. First Emily finds out Sebastien has cheated on her. Then Olivia's two daughters show up--one without her steady boyfriend and other with a guy she picked up on the plane (who has a dark side). Then we meet Brody's mother, whose husband walked out on her after 50+ years of marriage. And Brody's best friend, who has commitment issues. Let's just say this group is not the poster family for love and marriage.

The story moves right along but the only really likeable characters are Olivia and Brody (well, and Emily, though you mostly feel bad for her). If you're in the mood for a charming novel set in France, you're better off picking up a Martin Walker "Bruno" novel.
