The Children Return by Martin Walker
This is the latest installment in the charming Bruno Chief of Police series set in St Denis, France.
And this one is more serious than some of the other books in the series.
An undercover agent is found murdered in the woods. This is related to the reappearance of an autistic Algerian boy who had disappeared from a local mosque and may or may not have been turned into a radical in Afghanistan. This plot is interwoven with a bequest to the town from two elderly Jews who had been saved as children during the war by selfless locals. Needless to say, Bruno has his hands full. Of course, there is always time to celebrate the vendange (grape harvest) with a wild boar feast. And time to whip up a mouth-watering dinner for friends. And could there be a new romance on the horizon since things seem to be cooling down with Pamela? I can't wait for the next installment. And I wish St. Denis really existed so I could hang out with Bruno and his friends.
