Every Fifteen Minutes by Lisa Scottoline

Dr. Eric Parrish's life is not going well. He and his wife are separated and she's got main custody of his beloved daughter Hannah. Then he finds out that she's planning on selling the family home and moving in with her new boyfriend (that Eric didn't even know existed). He's also got his hands full at work. He's head of the psychiatric unit at a large hospital and sees private patients. But as stressed as he already is, his life is definitely heading into a downward spiral in which he may lose his daughter, his career, and even his freedom. It all starts when  Laurie Fortunato, head of the Emergency Department, asks him to speak to an elderly patient and her grandson, Max.

It's an engrossing story with plenty of twists and turns. But I prefer this author's Rosato & DiNunzio novels, which include a little humor along with the legal thrillers.
