Kickback by Ace Atkins

Kickback is the latest in Robert Parker's Spenser series, now in the hands of Ace Atkins.

All is not well in Blackburn, MA. Teens are getting arrested for minor infractions and sent
to a hell hole "rehab center" aka prison on windswept Fortune Island. Spenser gets involved when the mother of one of those teens, Dillon, gets sent there. Soon Spenser himself is arrested on a trumped-up charge. Which is where Hawk comes riding to the rescue. The two uncover mob ties, corrupt judges, bribes and other nefarious deeds as they attempt to free Dillon and later Dillon's friend--whose story is told throughout the book, though his name is never mentioned for some reason.

Ace Atkins has managed to capture Robert Parker's tone better than the writers hired to carry on his other series--though there are a few minor missteps. One whole section of the book, for example, is set in Florida, which is a little jarring since Spenser is so "Boston." But all in all, it was a good story.
