Make Me by Lee Child

This is the latest in the Jack Reacher series. While it moves right along, the ending is very disturbing. Former military man and  now professional wanderer Reacher gets off the train in isolated Mother's Reach, where he crosses paths with Michelle Chang. She is a former FBI agent, now PI, who is trying to find her missing partner, who last communicated from the tiny town in the wheat fields. Soon the 2 have joined forces--on both a personal and professional level--to find out where the missing partner is and what the heck is going on in Mother's Reach. What they eventually find is very, very dark.

I like the character of Reacher but I liked it better when he used his wits instead of violence to help people. And be warned, there is a lot of violence in this book.
