If you appreciate food and fine cooking, you must read 32 Yolks by Eric Ripert.
Now the owner of a successful restaurant in NYC, Ripert started out as a happy kid in France--whose world fell apart when his parents split up and then his beloved father died suddenly. He eventually realizes that cooking could be his way to a new life. And we follow his arduous journey to becoming a chef. The book ends as he's getting ready to head to America for the next phase of his life and I really hope there is a sequel so we can see how he ended up where he is today.
