The Music Shop by Rachel Joyce

I was just in the mood for something different and found it in The Music Shop.
This quirky love story is set in a rundown British neighborhood in the late 1980s.
Frank owns a record shop--only vinyl, no cassettes or CDs. He listens to his customers tell them about their lives then he picks the music that will be perfect for them--and indeed it often does give them a whole new lease on life.

Frank had an unconventional childhood and has long sworn off love. But one day, a beautiful German woman named Ilsa faints in front of his store. When she opens her eyes, Frank is spellbound and so begins the relationship between two of the prickliest people on earth.

There's a colorful cast of supporting characters who bop in and out of the music shop. And always looming overhead is the threat of developers taking over the neighborhood.

The Music Shop is charming story about a group of genuinely nice if offbeat people. I'll have to explore some of the other works of author Rachel Joyce.
