Long Road to mercy by David Baldacci

When Atlee Pine was a little girl, a man broke into her house, badly injuring her and kidnapping her twin sister Mercy.  Years later, Atlee is an FBI agent in Arizona, working hard to ensure justice for others--and trying to find out what happened to Mercy.

One day, a dead mule is found in the Grand Canyon with the letters J and K carved into its hide. This sets off a chain reaction of events with consequences Atlee couldn't even imagine. It also introduces her to potential love interest, park ranger (and ex-military man), Sam. It's a gripping story--and though it at one time might have seemed far-fetched, with the stories we hear on the news every night, it unfortunately seems sadly plausible.

I look forward to Atlee's next adventure.
