The Colors of All the Cattle by Alexander McCall Smith

Colors is the latest installment in the charming Precious Ramotswe series. Precious's friend who runs the local orphanage convinces her to (reluctantly) run for a seat on the local council so she can stop a big developer from building a hotel near the cemetery. (Her campaign slogan is very funny.) At the same time, the detective agency is trying to figure out who caused the hit and run of a doctor from Precious's childhood. And apprentice Charlie has fallen in love. It's just another week in Botswana. There were a couple of interesting surprises near the end of the story that make me curious about what will happen next.

What I like best about this series is that it makes you appreciate the little things in life--family, friends, a beautiful sunrise, a cup of hot tea, a pair of new shoes.
