The Giver of Stars by JoJo Moyes

British Alice Wright has always been unconventional, much to her parents' dismay. When she crosses paths with American Bennett van Cleve and he proposes marriage, she sees it as a chance to escape. But when he takes her home to rural Kentucky, it's not the life in America she was expecting--and living in the same house with his overbearing father is not what she envisioned. So when a new program is announced involving women on horses delivering library books to rural areas of Kentucky, she jumps at the opportunity. And it opens up a whole new world for Alice, much to her father-in-law's disapproval.

This would be an interesting book for a book group discussion. I'd love to know what other readers think of Bennett and the way he acts toward his wife. The roles of women in this community. How important books were to the people of this isolated area.

This book was based on an actual library program that ran in Kentucky in the 1930s and 40s.

If you're looking for an involving story with compelling characters to dive into over the holidays, this is an excellent choice.
