The Old Man by Thomas Perry

The Old Man is a stand-alone novel by the author of the excellent "Jane Whitefield" series.

The old man of the title is a former military man and intelligence agent who tried to do the right thing when a case he was working on went badly awry--and he ended up being framed for stealing millions of dollars in aid funds. He has been in hiding for years but has evidence that the bad guys may have found his location. So he sets off on a hair-raising journey to stay ahead of them -- and find a way to end this once and for all to get his life back.

I had to admire the old man's ingenuity. He realizes that technology has changed over the years, making it harder for him to remain under the radar. But he never stops improvising. And he is amazingly quick on his feet.

There was a subplot with a character named Zoe that I wish would have been wrapped up a little more conclusively. But other than that The Old Man is quite the page-turner.
