The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
If you liked Gone Girl, you will probably like The Silent Patient. I didn't particularly like Gone Girl, and felt the same way about Patient. It's a very grim story, much of it set in a mental hospital.
The story starts with a painter named Alicia accused of murdering her photographer husband Gabriel. She then stops speaking. Most of the story is told by a psychiatrist named Theo, who does seem obsessed with Alicia, who is living in the aforementioned mental hospital.
I didn't like the way the author seemed to be playing with the timeline of events to fool the reader, as a way to get to the conclusion that he did. Many people seem to love this book and I would welcome comments on why.
