To the Land of Lost Friends by Alexander McCall Smith

Lost Friends is the latest in the charming Precious series set in Botswana. Work is kind of slow at the detective agency so Precious devotes her time to helping out 2 old friends who have recently come back into her life. One is a woman she went to school with who had been reported dead (or "late" as they say in Botswana) but turned out not to be. She is upset because her grown daughter suddenly stopped talking to her and the mother has no idea why. The other is a mutual friend of Precious and the "late" friend, who lost all her money to an unscrupulous minister. The other main plot line involves assistant detective and sometime assistant mechanic Charlie, who is trying to figure out how he can marry the girl of his dreams, who comes from a much more well-to-do family than his is. As always, they're sweet, gentle stories that are a pleasant diversion in these stressful times.
