The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce

Harold Fry is retired. He and his wife Maureen share their longtime home but it's an uneasy coexistence. Then one day, Harold gets a letter in the mail from a woman he had worked with years earlier named Queenie saying she is dying and thanking him for his friendship.
Harold is taken aback and jots down a short note in reply. He sets off to the mailbox to send it, then can't stop walking. He calls the hospice center where Queenie lives and tells her he is on his way and to hang on till he gets there. Then he begins to walk more than 500 miles. Along the way, he reflects on his life, his marriage, his son and all the things he wishes he could do over. And meets many interesting people.

As his journey continues, we find out how Harold and Maureen started out as happy newlyweds and ended up barely speaking, what happened to their beloved son, and how he and Queenie became friends. It's a touching story with a good message.
