Off the Grid by C J Box

I started reading Off the Grid and halfway through realized I had already read it, but it was a good story, so I kept going. Game Warden Joe Picket ends up in a desolate desert ostensibly tracking a wild bear. Unbeknownst to his, his best friend, falconer Nate, ends up in the same desolate desert on a secret government mission conducted by two iffy government agents who promised to expunge his criminal record if he does their bidding. He's supposed to be following and cozying up to a fellow falconer named Ibby, who may or may not be into terrorist activities. Also unbeknownst to Joe, his oldest daughter Sheridan is in that same desolate desert as a favor to her whiny roommate, who heard about a need for volunteers at a secret compound. It turns out that yes, there is terrorist activity going on in the desolate desert and yes all 3 of them are caught in the middle trying to stop the plot and get out alive. The last third of the book is quite the page turner.
