The Emergency by Thomas Fisher

Thomas Fisher is an ER doc at a big hospital on the south side of Chicago. The Emergency details his experiences just before and during the first year of the Covid pandemic. In between the day-to-day experiences are "letters" to patients that give context to the story. He talks about the different ways VIP patients are treated vs often uninsured regular patients, the disparities in health in the Black community, and how healthcare organizations often put making money over the needs of patients. It's a thought-provoking work.
