The Family Recipe by Carolyn Huynh

Duc Tran was born in Vietnam but ended up emigrating to the US. He became best friends with another immigrant named Huey and they faced some scary times together trying to make a living. But eventually Duc starts a successful chain of sandwich shops, marries the beautiful Evelyn, and has a large family. When the book starts, Duc has told his children that to earn his large inheritance they will have to do his bidding. Each of his daughters is given one of his (now rundown) sandwich shops with orders to make a success of it in a year. The son is told to find a good wife. Whoever succeeds first gets the inheritance. At the same time his second wife is fighting for her share of the money, only to find out that she and Duc might never have been legally married.

So as the story unfolds, each sibling heads to a different part of the country to try to resurrect their stores. Jude, the son, goes to a matchmaker to find a wife. And we learn more about Duc's life when he first came to America. We also learn many family secrets. It's an interesting story about immigrants doing the best they can with what fate has handed them--and about family dynamics.
