Hot Property (a Spenser novel) by Mike Lupica

 Mike Lupica has done the best job of maintaining Robert Parker's voice and vision after his death. This one starts with a bang, literally, as Spenser's friend Rita (a very successful lawyer who has had the hots for Spenser for years) is shot on her way to the gym. Spenser starts investigating and thinks it might be related to a guy named Drummond, a  local politician that Rita had dated before his sudden death (ruled an accident but Rita is not so sure). The more Spenser delves into it, the more people start getting killed so Spenser realizes that someone powerful has a secret they want to keep hidden. It's a good story with a lot of the regulars making appearances--Susan, Hawk, Quirk, etc.

I saw Mike Lupica on a talk show recently and it sounded like this might be the last Spenser book he is planning to write. That would be a shame.
