The Boys of Riverside by Thomas Fuller
I don't even like football and I liked this book. The Boys of Riverside tells the story of a football team in California comprised of deaf players from a small school who take on their arch rivals--hearing players from a much bigger, much wealthier school--for the championship. It's an inspirational tale.
For context, the author has also done a lot of research on how deaf people have been treated (poorly) over the years. And the special skills the players bring to the game--such as not being distacted by ambiant noise and having enhanced vision. It's a fascinating book and you really are cheering the Cubs on to beat their very cocky rivals from Faith Baptist.
