Movie review: Philomena

Philomena Lee was a teenager in 1950s Ireland when she found her self pregnant and kicked out by her family. She ended up at a Catholic abbey, where she was forced into a sort of servitude for the "care" she received. Her son was sold to an American couple against her will. After keeping the secret for decades, Philomena decides to try to find her son and that is the premise for this warm-hearted movie.

Judi Dench is perfect as Philomena as is Steve Coogan, playing the unemployed reporter who decides to help her try to track down her son. At first, he doesn't want to be involved in such a fluff story, but then he begins to see all the injustices Philomena has suffered and really does want to help her have her happy ending. Definitely worth seeing.
