Night School by Lee Child

Night School is the latest "Jack Reacher" novel. It takes us back to 1996, when Reacher was still a military investigator. He and 2 other men--a CIA guy and an FBI guy--are brought together to try to figure out how to deal with a nebulous threat reported by a hidden asset in Hamburg, Germany. Reacher enlists the help of Frances Neagley, with whom he has worked before, and they head off to Germany to try to uncover more details of the plot.

The readers are kept in the dark for much of the book, which makes you keep reading to figure out what's really going on. We know that there is a $100 million purchase of something going to the Middle East, but we don't find out what it is until pretty late in the game, (though I had a good idea).

It's a good story and particularly interesting considering how much the world has changed since 1996.
