Flirting with French by William Alexander

William Alexander (or "Guy" as he calls himself in French) is an American writer who loves all things French. He decides he is going to devote considerable time and resources to learning to speak French like a native. Helas (alas), his journey does not go smoothly. Despite Rosetta Stone, immersion programs, emailing with actual French folk, he can see that he will never be fluent. But he doesn't stop trying.

This is an interesting story of one man's journey. He also includes a lot of fascinating research about how one learns language, how the French language developed over time, and how studying a language can improve cognitive function. He also throws in a lot of colorful French expressions.

If you love language, this is the book for you.
