Downfall by J A Jance

Pregnant Arizona sheriff Joanna Brady is already dealing with the unexpected deaths of her stepfather and mother (which happened in a book that I seem to have missed in this series), when she gets a call about two boys finding the bodies of two women up in the mountains. Her team can't figure out how these 2 women are related or ended up on the mountain. One is a student doing research and the other is the wife of a local preacher, and their paths seem never to have crossed before their untimely demise. Then the team finds out some unseemly details about one of the women--which suddenly creates a lot of suspects. At the same time, Joanna is investigating the death of an elderly man at the hands of his wife via golf club. Joanna is convinced there is more to this case than a spur of the moment crime of passion. All in all, it's a good tale. And I will have to go back and find the book I missed to fill in the blanks of Joanna's story.
