Camino Island by John Grisham

A band of thieves comes up with the idea of stealing some rare F. Scott Fitzgerald manuscripts from the Princeton University Library--and actually manages to pull it off. Then they have to stay under the radar long enough to either sell them or get the University to pay ransom for them. Enter Bruce Cable, a colorful independent bookstore owner on Camino Island in Florida. He may or may not be dealing in stolen books. Then enter Elaine Shelby, who works for a security firm that's trying to recover the missing manuscripts. She definitely has her eye on Bruce and needs a mole. Enter Mercer Mann, a teacher and writer who is buried under student loans, has just lost her teaching job, and is suffering from severe writer's block. Elaine makes Mercer an offer she can't refuse and soon she's winging her way to Camino Island, where she spent many happy summers with her late grandmother.
And the game is afoot.

Is this serious literature? No. But is it good summer froth, perfect for the beach or a long plane ride? Yes. John Grisham does know how to spin a good yarn. And the beach setting makes it a perfect summer read.
