Speaking of Murder by Les Roberts & Dan Kennedy

I like this series about Cleveland PI, Milan Jacovich, though this was not my favorite one in the series. Jacovich is an appealing character and I enjoy his sidekick, KO O'Bannion as well as Milan's girlfriend, homicide detective Tobe Blaine. But I didn't like the premise of this one as much as some of the others. It's set at a conference for motivational speakers. Milan and KO are hired as extra security for the event. Unfortunately, one of the main speakers gets murdered and they get fired. Then they get rehired by someone with a personal interest in one of the suspects, to clear his name.

Most of the motivational speakers are kind of obnoxious, including the one who gets killed, so it's kind of hard to care which one of them might have pulled the trigger.  But the personal subplots--Milan/Tobe, Milan/KO, KO/his girlfriend--are interesting and the Cleveland setting is unique.

If you're new to the series, start with one of the earlier books: Full Cleveland, The Lake Effect, or Collision Bend. Les Roberts tells a good story.
