The Scarred Woman by Jussi Adler-Olsen

I was psyched to discover that there was a new Department Q novel out and immediately put in a request at the library. I was happy that it arrived in time to be part of my holiday reading.

Scarred Woman has two parallel plots. One involves a disgruntled government benefits worker who is fed up with freeloaders trying to game the system. The other involves Rose, the very fragile member of the Department Q team, who seems to be undergoing a total breakdown, much to the consternation of the rest of the team.

The story highlights both the darkness in human nature--and the goodness. As always, I look forward to the next chapter in this intriguing series.

If you're new to this excellent police series set in Denmark, start at the beginning with the Keeper of Lost Causes.
