Young Jane Young by Gabrielle Zevin

Did you ever wonder who pays the price when an impressionable young female intern has an affair with a charismatic married politician? You guessed right on that--the girl. Young Jane Young tells the story of the lasting consequences of a foolish fling between college student Aviva Grossman and her much older congressman boss (who is always quick to point out that he was not her direct supervisor, as if that makes it okay). When the congressman gets into a car accident with Aviva alongside him, the scandal erupts. He manages to keep his congressional seat (and his wife), but she can't even get a gig volunteering, much less a real job. So she's forced to take drastic measures to save her future. It's a thought-provoking story and a quick read.

I also enjoyed The Storied Life of AJ Fikry by the same author.
