Movie review: Life as We Know It

This movie is actually better than the reviews would lead you to believe.
I frequently wonder why directors keep hiring Kathryn Heigl for romantic comedies because she so often comes off as brash and/or shrill. But in this movie, she has warmed up a little. And she does have good chemistry with Josh Duhamel.

Sure, the premise is implausible: A married couple dies and leaves their baby daughter (and their house, with an already paid-off mortgage, no less) in the hands of the baby's godparents--without having told them of their plans in advance.

However, once you get past that, the movie did try to show that the godparents didn't have an easy time adjusting to instant parenthood. And finances were an issue. (I did have to laugh at how little of an issue child care was, though. Both of them had full-time jobs and yet the only babysitter in evidence was the junior high neighbor from down the street. I'm not sure what they did with Baby Sophie while they were both at work.)

True, the ending is inevitable. But getting there was more enjoyable than I had expected. (And Baby Sophie is adorable.)Definitely worth a matinée ticket.
