Casino gambling is coming to Boston--and bringing with it a whole unwelcome criminal element.
Ace PI Spenser gets involved when his old friend Henry Cimoli tells him that someone is trying to force him and several other seniors out of their condo building. It turns out that the land it's on is the last piece needed for a planned casino development. Soon someone gets killed. Someone gets threatened. Gun-wielding thugs keep appearing--and no one is sure who is really pulling the strings, least of all Spenser--who's also dealing with his new protege Sixkill's self-destructive tendencies and really wishing both his sidekick Hawk and his sweetie Susan weren't out of town.
Ace Atkins really has managed to capture the flavor of the Spenser stories since he took over this series, after Robert Parker's death. I can't wait to see what he comes up with next.
