Eyes on You by Kate White

When I read that Kate White had a new book out, I was excited, assuming it was a new Bailey Weggins story because those are mysteries with a sense of humor. But alas, Eyes on You is a stand-alone novel. And it was not my favorite Kate White.

Robin Trainer has just returned to TV as a co-host of an increasingly popular talk show.
After a couple of years in which everything in her life had gone wrong, things are finally looking up.
But then someone close to her targets Robin, with increasingly dangerous stunts. Soon both her career and her life seem to be in jeopardy and she doesn't know who to trust.

The premise was good. But I had a few quibbles. One, why does this woman have no friends she can confide in? She seems like a nice person, albeit a little self-absorbed. But she appears to have no long-term friends who could help her out. And two, for someone so smart, why does Robin make so many boneheaded moves (discarding evidence, hooking up with her costar when even she knows that's a bad idea)? Finally, though the author kept trying to point us in one direction, I figured out who the villain was very early in the book. So the big surprise reveal wasn't surprising or revealing.

I keep hoping Kate White has a few more Bailey Weggins stories in her because that is an enjoyable series.
