Movie review: Begin Again

Keira Knightley plays a shy songwriter who comes to New York with her rising star boyfriend (Adam Levine), who soon gets sucked in by the fame machine and leaves her behind. She's planning to return to London when, pushed by a friend at an open-mic night, she sings one of her songs and catches the ear of a down-on-his-luck music producer played by Mark Ruffalo. Soon the singer and the producer are creating their own album of her songs live on the streets of New York. It's a cute story. One of my favorite scenes has the two of them listening to the songs on her iPod together while wandering around New York.

My one quibble is that pretty much every song Keira's character sang sounded kind of the same.
So you couldn't quite see the star potential that the producer saw. But Adam Levine sings a few ditties
too, which kind of perks things up. All in all, it was an entertaining way to spend a sultry summer Sunday.
