Terminal City by Linda Fairstein

I usually love this series set in New York and featuring Alex Cooper of the DA's office and her cop counterparts Mike Chapman and Mercer Wallace. Linda Fairstein always picks an interesting locale then shares a lot of cool historical details. And the relationship between Cooper and Chapman was beginning to heat up in the previous book. So I wanted to see where that was going.

However, I had a few problems with Terminal City. The setting is Grand Central Station and environs (ie, the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel). But there was just too much information about the setting. I also wanted to slap Mike Chapman more than once for being so snarky to Alex and I kept hoping she'd meet some nice guy, start dating him and leave Chapman in the dust, which is clearly not the emotion the author is going for.
The basic mystery itself is good. A woman is found murdered in the Waldorf-Astoria with no ID and very few clues to her killer. Then another body is found that is thought to be related, then another. AND the President is coming to NYC and planning to stay at the Waldorf-Astoria at the end of the week, so the cops are under more pressure than usual to find the killer.

If you're a fan of the series, it's worth reading but I didn't think it was the best in the series.
